I have been in two minds about this for weeks. Strangely attracted to the idea of Substack, knowing little to nothing about it other than the fact that authors and important people with something useful to say, use it. Individuals with published works, proper writers and those that keep abreast of politics and the news. I imagine this place teaming with the sort of people that are naturally good at Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble. So what on earth am I doing here?
The antwoord is Curiosity - and the need to create. I have wasted way too many hours recently on YouTube watching channels by middle age creators, and somehow that has encouraged me to try something new and more importantly, I have finally given myself permission. So here I am on Substack.
Welcome to my little corner of the internet where we can hang out, I’ll be sharing stuff. Live shows, snippets of projects I’m working on and general things I find interesting or amusing.
My hope is that you will come along for the ride - and we can be friends.
The audio attached to this piece is me doing a very rough version of a song by one of my new-found favs Brent Cobb, it’s a badly recorded voice note but you’ll get the idea. It’s called ‘Keep ‘em on their Toes’ - Something, I feel we could all do a lot more of.
Upcoming Show
Saturday 13th July - Napton Cidery, Warwickshire, CV47 8NY. 5pm till 7pm, I will be playing two chilled acoustic sets at their taproom. Interested in doing a cider tasting? They do that too.
This month and next I have some private weddings and events I will be performing at - as well as Festival dates that I can’t wait to announce very soon! ⚡
Do you like Outdoor Swimming & Yoga?
If so, I will be teaching the yoga part for my friend and fellow boater Caroline’s fabulous Full Moon Wellness Evening on 22nd July which if it’s anything like the one we did last month will be utterly incredible. The water was warm and the evening still and quiet, as we glided through glass like water made golden with the setting sun. Pure bliss.
Inspiring Stuff
Thing One: I stumbled upon this charming video on YouTube recently (I have been spending too much time on the dark web as you know). But this is one I watched more then once and I can’t decide why. There is something delightful about it, I find it soothing, familiar, relaxing. Maybe it’s the music, maybe it’s her vocal tone, whatever it is, it got me. Watch Indoor Kat.
Thing Two: This snippet from an interview with Rick Rubin, if you are interested in creativity and haven’t yet read his book yet, The Creative Act it’s worth a read but if you can’t be bothered then even better is hearing his lovely voice here 😊 a 15 minute listen while you are making dinner. Well worth it.
